High Density Mobile Storage

Compact mobile shelving may seem complicated—but in reality, it’s a simple way to gain additional space in an existing footprint. We can help you determine which type is right for you.

We call it high-density mobile storage.

You’ll call it the best thing to ever happen to your storage.

No matter what industry you work in, chances are you use some type of storage solution everyday – files in a file cabinet, inventory on pallet racks, supplies or parts on a traditional metal or wooden shelf. The problem with these traditional, static storage solutions is that they leave no room for growth or change.
When the amount of stuff being stored in your space changes, your square footage stays exactly the same. Building, renovating, or leasing a new space is too costly to maintain over time. Suddenly, your warehouse, evidence room, library, office, or athletic storage room is overcrowded and disorganized – which can mean lower productivity, safety hazards, low morale, and ultimately, lost profits.

Mobile storage from Spacesaver is a simple idea that can help you store the same amount of stuff in a fraction of your current space, leaving you with room for more storage and the activities that will grow your business.

product options

Standard Mobile Storage

Our most commonly-used solution with multiple design and access options.

For files, extra inventory, supplies, or virtually any storage need, standard mobile storage can help you compact your storage and create more space for additional offices, storage, or other activities. Mount shelves, drawers, cabinets, and more to create a system that works for your unique needs now and going forward.

ActivRAC Heavy-Duty Mobile Storage

A solution for storing large or heavy items without facility expansion, heavy-duty mobile storage systems can accommodate 7,000 to 30,000 pounds per carriage.

ActivRAC is ideal for warehouse spaces, but can assist wherever a compact solution for heavy items are needed. Mounting new or existing pallet racking or shelving on mobile carriages allows you to utilize your entire floor space without sacrificing forklift access.

Wheelhouse Low-Profile Mobile Storage

The mobile storage option for maximum flexibility.

Whether you’re waiting on funding for a renovation or addition to your building, leasing a property, or just need the ability to easily reconfigure in the future, low-profile mobile storage can help. Spacesaver’s Wheelhouse® systems combine strength and adaptability in a low-profile, low-cost modular system that makes the most of every inch of space with a low install impact in cost and site disturbance.

Archival Storage

A mobile storage option for off-site and high-bay storage.

Archival storage allows you to store archival boxes and records floor to ceiling, allowing you to preserve current collections while making space to accept new items. XTend static and mobile high-bay shelving systems are the perfect choice for museums, libraries, and other archive facilities that need protection and accessibility, but don’t want to sacrifice space.

Lateral Bi-File

Maximize file storage.

By placing a row of sliding shelves in front of a row of stationary shelving, you can fit up to double the amount of file storage in the same footprint. Just slide the front shelves along a floor rail to access back rows. And with lightweight rails and movable floors, expansion and relocation are a breeze.

modes of operation

Manual

Ideal for lighter loads, a manual pull handle is a cost-effective option used to open and close individual aisles.

Mechanical Assist

Aisles are accessed using a three-spoke rotating handle, which easily moves 4,000-10,000 pounds with just one pound of effort.

Powered

Move carriages with the touch of a button on a keypad.

Powered with Touch Technology Controlâ„¢

Open aisles using control options on an intuitive LCD touchscreen.

Safety Features

Safety sweeps come standard with every mobile system, and every aisle is required to have one floor sweep.

Photo Sweep

Used with powered systems

An infrared light beam, unaffected by sunlight or ambient light extremes, projected the length of the carriage at its base stops system movement when broken by a person’s foot or other object.

Safety Sweep

Used with mechanical assist systems

Provides full aisle protection for people and objects in the open aisles by automatically stopping carriage movement upon contact with a barrier.
Additional safety features can be added to your system including:

Aisle-Entry Sensor

When someone enters a closing aisle, cross-aisle sensors mounted 20 inches up from the carriage base stop the system from moving (for powered systems only).

Zero Force Sensor

>By projecting multiple infrared photoelectric beams across an open aisle the full length of the carriage, the Zero Force Sensor (ZFS) system detects a person’s entry or presence in an open aisle and automatically locks down carriage movement (for powered systems only).

Offices & Business Spaces

Today’s offices and businesses are undergoing changes—particularly ones that concern their physical space.

Modern and collaborative workspaces are a must, and as a result, companies are looking for a way to create additional space without having to embark on costly expansions or renovations. Compact mobile shelving has created a way to do this in many offices—as was the case with a Toronto Law Firm that needed to find a way to house a large legal library in one central location. To assist, a powered mobile system was installed to maximize space and allow the entire collection to be in one place that was easily accessible for the law firm’s staff. The system also featured dual entry wood veneer end-panels to coordinate with the library’s design elements.

Modular Bi-File or Tri-File Office Storage Systems

Spacesaver’s Modular Bi-File or Tri-File Office Storage Systems create office files storage in very minimal space, allowing two or three rows of files to be placed in the same footprint as one file row. The shelves are on moving carriages that travel back and forth, allowing access to all shelves. The same Toronto Law Firm utilized modular bi-file systems along with the compact mobile shelving system to store their files in a central location and create more space for other functions of their business—specifically, creating additional offices.

healthcare

Compact storage doesn’t just mean space efficiency in the healthcare market, it also means supplies are easy and quick to access.

Storage is often an afterthought when planning healthcare facilities, leaving sterile storage supplies in various locations. Compact mobile storage allows you to fit all critical supplies close to where they’re needed, such as near the operating suite or in a central supply room, while maintaining a more manageable inventory. Colored bins and separators can be added for even simpler organization and inventory control.

A FrameWRX Modular Storage System using bins and rails can be paired with a high-density mobile system to offer ultimate flexibility and configurability.

No matter the size of a police department, the challenge always seems to be the same—how to properly organize and plan for an evidence room when it’s already bursting at the seams. Mobile shelving creates a cost-effective way to do this, regardless of if a renovation or new building is on the horizon.

Depending on the type of evidence being stored, there are a variety of high-density mobile storage options:

  • Standard compact mobile storage is the solution for departments that want to create additional space in an existing evidence room—or plan for future evidence inventory
  • Low-profile mobile shelving is a cost-effective way to create extra storage space and still allow for the system to be moved, added to, or reconfigured
  • Heavy-duty mobile storage is beneficial for departments with a large inventory of heavy, bulky items or have an off-site storage facility
  • High-bay archival storage is ideal for those departments with an off-site facility and a need to maximize all available space.

Library & Education

Libraries and schools are evolving.

With a new generation of students and different needs for learning and engagement, libraries and universities have shifted to redefining their missions. Library’s are not just a quiet space for studying, today’s spaces include collaborative learning centers, makerspaces, computer labs, coffeeshops, media rooms, and theaters.

With the need for these additional spaces, libraries are feeling a space crunch. In the library of a Toronto law firm, a powered mobile shelving system was able to store the same amount of volumes in half the space—allowing space for future growth and the creation of additional offices.

Spaces change— and so do the plans for that space. If there’s a need to compact space, but also a need to be able to move that storage system at a later date, there’s a cost-effective, low profile mobile shelving option. With the help of a modular floor system, the system can be reconfigured or relocated based on your needs—without being installed directly into the floor.

Museums & Archival Storage

Museum and archive collections require special considerations when it comes to storage with the ultimate goal being the preservation of important artifacts.

Compact mobile storage systems can certainly assist with not only conserving your collections, but in conserving space to accommodate them. In addition to being able to store artifacts and archives of all sizes and weights on high-density mobile shelving, we have a solution for two-dimensional art collections as well. Spacesaver’s rolling artwork panels offer storage on both sides of the rack, doubling the storage capacity—and can be hung from the ceiling or mounted to the ground. Ottawa’s Canadian War Museum had a 1,300 piece art collection—and was concerned about a safe way to store the work when they embarked on a large expansion. We helped them solve this by installing 90 mobile art racks on double rails for maximum storage and protection.

XTend High-Bay Archival Storage Systems

Archival and historical record centers are also grappling the preservation of their collections—and the sheer number of items they accept on a regular basis. Designed specifically to provide off-site shelving solutions for storing boxes, books, and other materials, XTend static and mobile high-bay shelving systems provide space efficiency by maximizing available vertical space—while also ensuring protection and accessibility.
